TVR started out as an independent British sports car manufacturer based in Blackpool, England set up by Trevor Wilkinson. The TVR name was taken Wilkinson's first name TreVoR. In 1947 Wilkinson built his first car for himself which was a two-seater special body on an Alvis Firebird chassis. Following on Wilkinson set up TVR engineering with partner Jack Picard and they made their first production car in 1949 which was a two seater alloy-bodied on a tubular chassis.
